Japanese Knotweed has reared its nasty head in recent years including in Earlestown. When Japanese Knotweed was first brought to the UK, it was known for its ornamental nature. The Victorians liked the large heart-shaped leaves and red stems but did not realise its invasive nature.

When taken from its native environment of East Asia, it does not have the insects and other environmental impacts which are native to Japan to control its growth. Therefore, other methods of control are required.

As a company we have the necessary qualifications and follow the PCA and RICs standards for Japanese Knotweed removal. New growth of Japanese Knotweed can occur by fly tipping or moving soil with remains of Japanese Knotweed rhizomes in. It can also be spread by water if pieces of the plant fall into the water they can cause new growth further downstream.

Therefore, the correct method of treatment for a Japanese Knotweed outbreak needs to occur. Treatment options can include:

• Herbicide Treatment – Spraying or injection – Injection is commonly used by water courses to prevent contaminating the water.
• Excavation and Removal – this is often used on sites where building work is occurring and need the Japanese Knotweed removing quickly and efficiently.
• Permanent Burial – can be used on large sites where a plot of land can be used to bury the Japanese Knotweed so it can lie undisturbed.
• Combined Treatment Method – is a combination of several different methods to ensure the safe removal of the knotweed.
