What Is the Japanese Knotweed Treatment Cost?

If you have the dreaded knotweed then you may be wondering how much does Japanese Knotweed treatment cost?

Herbicidal Knotweed Treatment

Japanese Knotweed Treatment Cost

There are several different methods of treating Japanese
knotweed.

For most residential properties, we would recommend a herbicidal treatment over the growing season, followed by inspection visits. The number of stands can affect the cost. As well as this, the age of the Japanese knotweed stand(s) and the size of the Japanese knotweed stand(s). In addition to the treatment, there’s a 10-year company backed guarantee which is put in place upon completion of treatment. This service can cost as little as £1,700 (excluding VAT). However, the average cost is approximately £3,000, which is split across your treatment programme.

For commercial properties, or larger stands at residential properties, excavation can be a quicker option. This does tend to be more expensive. We base the cost for excavation on the cost of any soil disposal. Which can be highly variable depending on your location, plant machinery costs, any soil required to backfill the area, the cost of the surveyor and the amount of knotweed to be removed. If there are any high-risk areas (such as waterways, electrical lines), then this can also impact your cost. Excavations start from £20,000 but costs can dramatically vary depending on the factors described above.

Alternatively, if you have access to any of the above materials (such as excavators and a trained driver, or soil for backfilling) then there will be a reduced cost of the excavation accordingly. However, there is the option of the work being completed entirely by yourself. Of course, with a clerk of the works supervising the work. Excavation supervision starts from £400 + VAT.
