Japanese Knotweed Excavation In Derbyshire

This stand of Japanese knotweed was very developed and we have estimated that the plant was over 20 years old!

Usually for any excavation of Japanese knotweed we would dig to a depth of 3 metres. Fortunately for this site in Derbyshire, although large. It a sub base of clay just shy of 2 metres that the roots had not penetrated.  We were able to safely remove all of the rhizome of the Japanese knotweed.

We perform excavations on a regular basis, for commercial sites in particular. This is for clients who cannot afford the time to have the site lay dormant for over 3 years while we treat the Japanese knotweed with herbicides. Excavation saves you time as we dig up the entirety of the plant, removed and disposed of correctly, without any hassle.

We are a very commercially minded in this respect, we aim to really fulfil the requirements of our clients. This will save you time, money and get your development back on track for completion.

Additional Steps

  1. Where possible, we designate a clean hard-standing road into and out of the site. If not possible, we use hard standing in the area where we fill the trucks up with contaminated soil. We also wash the wheels of the trucks off before they leave the site. We take these measures to prevent the Japanese knotweed from spreading.
  2. As well as this, we cordon off the site so that only our trained team members can access the area. This helps to further prevent any cross-contamination. Our team members are also required to clean boots and tools before moving to other areas.
  3.  From this, we then remove the contaminated soil from the site. Any hard standing that has been laid where vehicles we have filled up is also removed from the site and we then wash the wheels and tracks.
  4. After this, we take all waste to a licenced landfill site. We receive waste carrier notes from the driver and the licenced landfill site. This ensures we dispose of the waste correctly and within Hazardous Waste guidelines.
  5. Making the site safe is a high priority for us. We backfill the excavated area as soon as possible to prevent any accidents.
