Lilac Syringa macrophylla has similar dense green foliage and heart shaped leaves. You first get the dense green foliage followed by the flowers in Spring which is unlike Japanese knotweed which flowers in later summer early autumn.
However, the flowers are also lilac in colour which differ from the white flowers on knotweed.
